Food for Profit: a cinema night that opens your eyes

Lobbying can be powerful and have a negative impact on our lives, but being aware is part of the solution!

At Molo X, on the 19th of April,  an inspiring evening of reflection and discussion unfolded during the screening of the documentary Food for Profit. The event was hosted by Europiamo and Ostia Clean Up, an association dedicated to creating a positive impact on the shores of Rome through environmental initiatives, community projects, and educational activities aimed at promoting sustainability and social awareness.

The gathering brought together a diverse and engaged audience, particularly many young people from the local community, all united by a desire to better understand the environmental and ethical challenges connected to today’s food systems. More than just a film screening, the evening became an opportunity for dialogue, learning, and collective reflection.

The Message behind Food for Profit

Food for Profit explores the complex relationship between industrial animal farming, political interests, and the economic mechanisms that sustain large-scale food production across Europe. Through investigative journalism, expert interviews, and powerful visual storytelling, the documentary exposes the hidden consequences of intensive livestock farming on the environment, public health, and animal welfare.

One of the most impactful aspects of the documentary is its ability to connect global issues with everyday choices. Topics such as pollution, deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and the misuse of public subsidies are presented in a direct and accessible way, encouraging viewers to think critically about the systems behind the food they consume.

The film does not simply aim to shock the audience; rather, it encourages awareness and responsibility. By highlighting the social and environmental costs of industrial farming, it opens an important conversation about sustainability, ethics, and the urgent need for more transparent and responsible food systems.

The viewing of Food for Profit proved to be much more than a cultural event. It became a moment of awareness, inspiration, and community building. By bringing together people willing to learn and engage with complex issues, the evening helped strengthen the sense of responsibility and participation within the local community. The positive response from attendees showed how important it is to continue organizing initiatives that combine culture, education, and environmental action. Through moments of shared reflection like this one, communities can become more informed, connected, and motivated to contribute to positive change — both locally and globally.
